One of the first places I ate with the people in Southern Indiana was Hope Southern. Two guys with a passion to help the homeless have been doing this with the help of whomever marches to the beat of their drum. Nomads. They understood the power of eating with others as a form of ministry and volunteering. They even have a phrase for it!!
These tables are clean and it was nice to sit at them. It’s the little things. If you are helping others make sure the space is clean. You will help them mentally right off the bat. It is simple.
Next – a woman sat next to me and we shared in The Lord. It was awesome. Got goosebumps/truthbumps left and right and it was when we said – “If you believe in Christ, let’s praise together!” We both appreciate going to services all around and wherever God sends us. She went to 7th Day Adventist! They are the faith that taught me that the Sabbath Day, the 7th Day is actually Saturday! Not Sunday! I made sure to go to St. Mary’s Catholic Church last Saturday and Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Sunday to honor both “Sabbaths.” The Catholic Church teaches that the Sabbath is Sunday!
Anywho – back to what gave me truthbumps. She and I were talking about being rooted in the word and how she hadn’t been able to do it because she was too distracted by her circumstances and death in her family. I told her that even just a single passage is enough. Lo and behold a man was wearing one right in front of us:
“1 Peter 3:8
New International Version
Suffering for Doing Good
8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.”
So fitting. As we were in line for food another passage right above us:
“1 John 3:18
New International Version
18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
Keep showing up. Heaven thanks you for it.
In Jesus always, Amen.
