I was able to volunteer at the Opportunity House. It is a thrift store that has been around for 60 years in Bloomington!

The Lord spoke through everything and I saw everything that was trying to get in my way of walking fully with Christ but also saw a new way of taking care of the people.

This thrift store has an ironing station. I took care of that with TLC during my time volunteering.
They also have a sewing corner! Some of the volunteers have been there for 30-40 years!!!

I was able to view how organized they kept everything compared to other thrift stores and clothing closets.

This one was by far the cleanest and most caring.

It’s the little things that matter the most, especially when you need help and there is no where to receive it but a place like this.

1. Their toy section was clean. They have to clean every toy that comes in.
2. They had dresser drawers labeled with socks and underwear.
3. They don’t put out wrinkled clothes.
4. They don’t put out clothes with stains but they do give those to Pantry 279 and alike.
5. Their prices go down every two weeks so they can keep the flow of the old with the new. Eventually items go down to 50 cents. At the end of their store life someone takes the items to someone else in need.
   
6. They have 3 sets of eyes to sort donations. This helps catch items with holes, stains and lifeless items. They do get trashed in some cases.
   
7. They also have a stock pile kept for scrapping metal. They earn some extra money this way.
   
8. They gave 5 part time employees that are paid and 65 volunteers.
9. They have a designated kitchen day where all of those donations are taken care of.
   
10. They have one person that handles all holiday donations.
    
11. They have a donated freedom bench for people to rest.
    
12. All of the items are hung in the same direction.
    
13. What I didn’t care for was a move to silence my faith by the volunteer manager.
    
14. The theme and pattern in my life is clear. People are trying to silence my faith, my walk, my freedom and my gifts.
    
15. God has stepped in.
