The Truth Will Set You Free
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.””
When speaking at Marian High School in 2022 with Michael Davidson aka D. the full picture showed itself.
When Eric died I was literally in shock for many years. Fog was a good friend of mine for over a year. I remember the day that I pushed myself out of it. I was sitting at a red light, coming off of the toll road in South Bend, Indiana. I thought to myself, I am tired of walking around in a daze. In that moment I snapped out of it. Our thoughts are powerful. What we choose to keep in our minds has immense impact on our path in life.
When D. Spoke to the students he read part of the pamphlet from Eric’s funeral. This pamphlet has the words of my Mom and the length of when she first told everyone of Eric’s Promise.
In full Eric’s Promise is this:
To be more giving, to not lie and to do more acts of kindness.
Let’s cover number 2. Lies.
There is a specific one that I refuse to carry with me anymore.
While in Colorado the first time around my Mom had come visit me by herself. We were eating lunch in Estes Park and I was deep in uncovering family shadows at this time. Seeking the truth, tracing who my ancestors were etc. Family secrets. I was so tired of living in halve truths that my entire being started being pulled by God to unveil it to me. From how my Grandpa really died to the addictions in the family to Vicki Molnar not really being Joe’s daughter.
One night, while laying in bed in Colorado, I was looking at a picture of Vicki, Alex, Nick and Jeannie (“Joe’s kids”). They were all younger and on the beach together. Something hit me. The color of hair and how Vicki looked very different than the other 3 siblings. I said this to my Mom at lunch. I said, Joe isn’t Vicki’s Dad is he? She stopped eating, looked at me abruptly and said, “How do you know that?” I told her about the picture of them on the beach. She said, “I told Joe I wouldn’t tell anyone. Don’t tell anyone. Joe would kill me.” I agreed to keep it to myself but ever since last year it has been eating at me.
Now is the time. Vicki – ask Peggy who your real Dad is. Thank you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
